Dewey’s Readathon #4 – Spring 2015

I want to thank you all for cheering on me, participating in my mini-challenge or just stepping by to have a look at my progress. I hope to see some of you around. I’ll be sure to check your blogs out in the upcoming week. Thank you for making this event such an amazing experience time and again! :)

14.08: The Readathon is over. I had a rough couple of hours this morning, but I made it. I didn’t read much, but I had fun. I’ve been looking at books and am desperate to buy one or two, but I just don’t know which one. I just need a darn book. Sounds familiar, anyone?

So… Let’s sumup the last 24 hours:

Pages read: 790
Books read: 3

Books bought: 0 – yet!!
Snacks: 1 apple, crackers, 1 burger, candy, 1 orange, ½ melon, 1 marzipan bar, chips, breakfast,
Drinks: 2 coffee, 3 tea, ½ liter of water, ½ liter of iced tea, 1 beer, 1 chocolate chai latte, 1 ice coffee, 1 glass of homemade applejuice, 1 glass of milk

Pages in total: 790

End of Event meme:

  1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
  3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
  4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
  5. How many books did you read?
  6. What were the names of the books you read?
  7. Which book did you enjoy most?
  8. Which did you enjoy least?
  9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
  10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

1. None. I went to bed at 5 and slept for a little while, then got up and read a little, but my main focus has been on social media these past few hours.
2. The Readers in Broken Wheel Recommends was so good and it’s coming out in English in June. Perfect readathon-read!
3. Music suggestions! I was struggling to find the right music around hour 12-13..
4. The Twitter-feed. It worked really well!
5+6. 3! The Yellow Wallpaper, Playlist for the Dead and The Readers in Broken Wheel Recommends. I also read a little of The Elite and Good Omens. All in all I read 790 pages.
7. The Readers in Broken Wheel Recommends.
8. Playlist for the Dead. It was really good, but the other two were just better.
9. CAPTCHA is still a big problem! If anyone can think of a solution, that’d be great. Also, I hope more people are willing to cheer, because nearly 100 people were a lot! I love cheering, don’t get me wrong, it was just a little over the top :)
10. Very likely! I’ll sign up to cheer and host a mini-challenge again, I think.

12.12: Okay, I’m not getting much reading done. I’m feeling very uncomfortable, so I think this is it for me. I’m just spending my time on social media doing challenges, cheering for people etc.

Currently reading: Nothing.
Pages read: 64
Snacks since last update: Breakfast
Drinks since last update: Milk

Pages in total: 790

09.45: Okay, I’m awake. Or…well…I’m sitting up! And my eyes are open! I had such a bad nap; it was too cold, too light, I couldn’t find the right position etc. etc. I’ve caught up on the mini-challenges and am ready to read a bit more. Here’s to hoping I can finish that last book of mine! I have 396 pages left. I better hurry up!!! Okay, come to think about it, I don’t think I can finish it. If I make it to page 250 it’ll be great! :)

05.06: Getting tired. I’ve spend the last 1½ hour online instead of reading… Now I’m off to bed for a few hours. Hope to see you in 3-4 hours :)

Currently reading: Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
Pages read: 28
Snacks since last update: Chips
Drinks since last update: A bit of water

Mini-challenge, Music is Muse:
Since I’ve read Playlist for the Dead, this one isn’t too hard. I didn’t know this one before it was mentioned in the book, but I’ve listened to it a couple of times and really like it. I’m sure this song will always remind me of the book.

03.19: I just finished my third book. I’m starting to get a bit tired, but not enough to actually go to bed yet. I’ve also managed to spill a cup of tea all over myself. No books or electronics were harmed!

Currently reading: I’ll be starting Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett in a few moments.
Pages read: 194
Snacks since last update: Candy, chips
Drinks since last update: 1 ice coffee, a sip of tea, 1 glass of homemade applejuice

I won’t call them interruptions since I’ve decided to go online myself. I’ve spend a lot of time online, but that’s okay :)
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
It’s almost 2 in the night and I’m not that tired yet. That’s pretty amazing!

Okay, so I have this book Lunch in Paris that I really want to read this spring. It’s part love story, part cookbook according to the back, and I really wanna make the recipes as I read it. One of the recipes is Fennel salad with lemon, olive oil, and pomegrante seeds. Doesn’t that sound good?!

23.05: I’m really liking my current read! I spend a lot of time cheering, way more than I was expecting, but I had fun and that’s all that matters :)

Mini-Challenge #1, Classic Words of Wisdom:
Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairytales again.” C.S. Lewis
These words are in the forewords to The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and they couldn’t be more accurate. Every child loves a good fairytale, but then time comes when you grow up and fairytales are just for “those little kids.” As you grow older, you realize that no, fairytales are not just for kids. They can be read over and over again and no matter how many times you read them, you’re able to find a new meaning. Fairytales are immortal stories.

Udklip
398.2 is the Dewey Decimal Classification number for fairytales.

13.20: Opening meme:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I’m reading from Aalborg, Denmark. That means the readathon starts at 2pm – or 14, as we say here.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Playlist for the Dead. I bought the book just for this readathon. I’m very excited to finally dive into it! I also found the playlist on Spotify :)
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
To be honest, I can’t wait for dinner! I’m having homemade burgers with pulled pork. I’m also looking forward to have some mango.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I’m 25 years old, live in Denmark and am studying to do *something* related to culture. Normally, I blog in Danish, but if you want to follow my blog anyway, you can use the translation widget at the upper right corner. I’ve been blogging for a long, long time, and I really enjoy it. I hope to make some new bookloving friends during this readathon, so please, come say hi! :)
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?
I’m more prepared than I’ve ever been! There’s homemade juice in the fridge, the meat is in the oven already and I have some cheers written down so it’ll be easier to cheer when the time comes. Apart from that, I’m just hoping to have a really good time!

It’s that time again! Dewey’s Readathon is here. Or…well…almost! In just one hour readers around the world will sit down with their book of choice and start reading. To me, this event is as much about engaging with other readers as it’s about reading. Snacking is extremely important as well! ;) This year I’m kind of going with the flow and picking up whatever book I feel like reading. However, I do have some books that I wanna read at the moment, so I’m probably gonna choose from this stack:
image
I’m starting off with The Yellow Wallpaper, then Playlist for the Dead and then time will tell… This stack contains 1394 pages, so it’s doubtful that I’ll make it through them all, should I decide to go with this stack. We’ll see!
I’ll be updating this post throughout the event, with memes and all. I’m cheering for Team Mr. Popper, so some of you will definitely see me around every now and then. This year I’m also hosting a mini-challenge, so be sure to home back around hour 7!

I’ll also be updating on Twitter, Instagram and Goodreads.

Happy reading!

Go for it!

Rigtig god fornøjelse – håber du får mange gode læsetimer :-)

      • Malene H Reply

Orv, tak skal du have! :)

          • Malene H

            Tak skal du have!

Sejt du starter med ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’.

  4. amckiereads Reply

OH MAN! Good Omens is my favorite – I giggled in my sleep after reading it, according to my roommate at the time. She said she could hear me from the hall :) I hope that you enjoy!!

    Happy readathon!

    • Irene Post authorReply

Ahaha really? That’s hilarious! I listened to the podcast a few months ago and absolutely loved it, so I thought I’d try the book as well :) You too :)

  5. Kay Reply

Hey there! I’m cheering for Team Mr. Popper as well and am here to give you a greeting and a cheer! I live in Texas and think your pork burgers sounds really good. Although it’s just after breakfast here. Have a great day!!

  6. Camilla Reply

  8. Rikke Reply

Så sejt at du læser ‘Good Omens’!

  9. amckiereads Reply

I’m glad to hear no books or electronics were harmed in the tea spillage incident! Are you loving Good Omens? I so hope that you are :) Happy readathoning!!

  10. Mayor Sonni Reply

I haven’t read Playlist for the Dead. I will have to check it out. It is really quiet now. I can hear my cat snoring. We are in the homestretch. Don’t forget to move around a bit. Best of luck in achieving your read-a-thon goals. Happy reading! #TeamMrPopper

  11. Lindsey Reply

It looks like you had a great Readathon! I’ve heard good things about Good Omens and I hope you loved it!!

    • Irene Post authorReply

I did! I ended up reading just a little over 30 pages before i quit, and I haven’t picked it up since. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it though!

  12. Sidsel Reply
